About me
My name is Dariusz Joński. I am a Member of the European Parliament. In the European Parliament, I belong to the European People's Party (EPP). I sit, among other things, on the Committee on Transport and Tourism, where I am the Vice-Coordinator. One of my main goals in the European Parliament is to work for the development of Polish and European rail, road, and air infrastructure. High-Speed Rail is a priority for Poland in the coming years.

Currently
Poland ranks among the leaders in the European Union in terms of economic growth. In the largest European party – the European People's Party (EPP) – Poland has the second-largest national delegation, which allows us to exert significant influence on key EU decisions.

2009
The Lisbon Treaty
The Treaty reforms the EU institutions, increases the role of the European Parliament, and introduces the positions of the President of the European Council and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

2004
Poland in the European Union
On May 1, Poland, along with nine other countries, joins the EU, marking the largest enlargement of the Community in history.

1999
Introduction of the euro
The euro becomes a non-cash currency in 1999, and in 2002, banknotes and coins are introduced into circulation. The euro becomes the official currency in many EU countries.

1992
The Maastricht Treaty
The Treaty establishes the European Union and introduces EU citizenship. Preparations for a common currency begin from this point.

1985
The Schengen Treaty
An agreement to abolish border controls between France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. It becomes the foundation of the Schengen Area.

1973
The first enlargement
The United Kingdom, Denmark, and Ireland join the EEC, marking the first step in the enlargement of the Community to include new countries from Western Europe.

1957
The Rome Treaties
The European Economic Community (EEC) and Euratom are established. The goal is to create a common market with the free movement of goods, services, people, and capital.

1951
The Paris Treaty
The creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) by six countries (Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and Italy) to manage coal and steel resources and prevent conflicts.

The Parliament represents 450 million residents of the European Union. People in the European Union vote for 720 members of Parliament. The members represent them in the Parliament. Members of the European Parliament are called MEPs (Members of the European Parliament).
MEPs analyze proposals for new EU regulations. Their task is to amend and improve the regulations. MEPs also oversee the functioning of the European Union.
The Parliament adopts new regulations together with the Council. The Council consists of ministers from EU member states. The Parliament and the Council also decide on the EU budget. The budget is the EU’s money. The Parliament oversees the work of various organizations that help the European Union function.
Most MEPs work in political groups. In political groups, there are MEPs from different countries. MEPs belong to different political parties. Political groups have common goals.
The Parliament has 20 permanent committees. MEPs work in committees. The European Commission proposes new EU regulations. Committees discuss the proposed regulations. Their task is to improve them. Committees vote on improvements to the regulations.
